The Race Bike

Old age and a rickety back have caused me to transistion from the Singlespeed to the 40+ geared class. As such, a new bike was in order. Check out the full breakdown of the bike here.

 The Singlespeed

Once I started riding again I got the urge to build another singlespeed. The primary factors for this build were that the frame was non-Boost and made from steel. I had a bunch of spare parts in my basement from my last singlespeed that I wanted to reuse to save money. I wanted steel because there’s just something different about riding a steel framed mountain bike.

The Gravel/Road Bike

After stringing together several months of consistent riding together and dropping a bunch of weight I rewarded myself with my first new bike in years. I wanted a road bike, but I didn’t want to be stuck to just riding it on the rode. Luckily for me American Bicycle Group had just launched their new adventure bike line, Ocoee Bikes. The Ocoee Baseline 105 was exactly what I was looking for; a road bike that was capable of tackling rougher terrain should I get the urge, carbon frame, disc brakes, and clearance for 32c tires. This bike has remained stock thus far as the spec was excellent right out of the box.

The Cross/Urban Bike

When I was still racing bikes before I had dabbled in Cross racing and decided to put a bike together that I could use for Cross races, gravel rides, urban riding, and commuting to work. The oldest bike in the stable and probably the only one I’ll always have around. Steel framed, able to go singlespeed, and custom built with snappy handling, its become my go to bike for urban rides and the occasional Cross race.

Frame: Custom built Silent Cycles steel frame
Fork: Whisky Bike Parts No. 9 Disc Tapered
Wheelset: Chris King hubs laced to Stan’s Crest rims

The Huck/Roll Bike

The newest bike in the stable. After I built up the Soma I liked it so much that I decided to look into a steel framed, longer travel bike. As luck would have it the Kona Honzo was available as frame only and all the parts from my Santa Cruz Chameleon would transfer over. Soon to be singlespeed as well, this bike is used for the days I want to ride at a more casual pace or feel like getting knarly on the rougher trails around Chattanooga. The 27.5 Plus wheels are fun to ride, soak up a lot of trail chatter, and have grip for days.

Frame: 2020 Kona Big Honzo ST

Drivetrain: Race Face Crank with SRAM GX 11 Speed RD and cassette
Dropper: Rock Shox Reverb
Brakes: Avid Guide R
Cockpit: Race Face riser bar, ESI grips, WTB Volt saddle

The Transport Vehicle

My truck gets used a ton. Its my primary form or transportation to work and trail, pulls my RV to campgrounds all over the Southeast, and is used to transport tools and building materials needed for home ownership. It’s also been used to help people move on many occasions, being the primary reason I have friends….cause my personality surely ain’t keeping people around.
